University of Vermont Center for Sustainable Agriculture

Three separate grants were used to study the feasibility of growing organic barley and producing organic malted barley and malt syrup in Vermont, to improve the bookkeeping and record keeping systems of small dairy producers, and to conduct the On-farm Seed Oil Production and Feasibility Study.

Vermont Cheese Council

Grants were used to help organize the Vermont Cheese Council and to assist its first 12 members market their products, share technical assistance with each other, develop quality standards for Vermont cheeses using the Council’s label, develop a fundraising plan, complete the VCC website, produce a logo, and hold a conference.

Grant was used to provide scholarships to new and experienced farmers to offset costs of participating in a Vermont Food Venture Center agricultural business development program.
